Survival of the Fittest

"Pudupettai" is SelvaRaghavan's latest venture. The director of 7/G teams up once again with Superstar Rajni's son-in-law Dhanush (after their blockbuster 'Kadal Kondain'. Cast includes Raghavan's would-be (or already?) wife Sonia Aggarwal and Sneha. When dubbed, the title first thought was "Kottha Peta" true translation of the tamil title meaning "New City". But the dubbers, fell prey to the mass value of the name of the area "Dhoolpet". The film can be thought of Raghavan's version of that Mani Ratnam classic "Nayakan".

Fitting to its tag line "Survival of the fittest", the movie presents before us a proof of concept for the Darwinian Hypothesis. On the same lines,only the fit ( read ... fairly insenstive ) can survive this gory violent-glorified mass flick. I am not sure if a movie will be made again with this amount of violence ( I curse my vocabulary, for not having enough synonyms for this word) For once CBFC rated A certificate's limitations are exposed. I have just sent an e-mail asking the Censor board to create another category "V". This is one helluva hard-hitting dark movie.

As anyone can guess from the title, the hero enters a new city for his survival; after a catastrophic personal bereavement. Forced into a situation in which he ought use his latent talent; he undergoes a mutation (not chromosomal or genetic but a behavioural one).From there on Natuaral Selection takes over.In this tumultuous journey he encounters Sneha( a prostitute-Parallel with Nayakan again).Later on Sonia Aggarwal. There are one or two intimate scenes. Naa. You cant term them hot. They are naturally natural (raw).

Special mention of the background score. As expected Junior I Raja ( Yuvan Shankar) gave his all. Songs wont stand out as they blend into the movie. Commedy has no room at all.Dhanush excels in a tailor-made role but for Gossake why doesnt his tailor suggest him to improve his measurements?

Movie is a strict no-no for fairer sex and weaker hearts. And anyone with a criminal streak of even 0.012 nano meter thickness is bound to turn into a full time criminal with this.
The film offers a complete and comprehensive tutorial on:
1. how to sell dope
2. how to cut off a right hand
3. how to murder
and a lot more.

The 1st song of the movie goes something like this "Maa Area Loniki Raavaddu ...". Heed the advice. Dont go anyway near Dhoolpet.

BANGARAM - A Man In A Battle For Love

BANGARAM, that precious thing on which hopes of millions and millions of hopes are pinned, hit the screens this morning. The author is proud to state that he ranks in the first 100's who saw the show that started at 5:58 AM IST.

Interestingly, Pawan plays a journo (world knows the relationship he had with the media). The movie unfurls with Bangaram interviewing a famous (oops..notorious) terrorist. In an attempt to save a girl in danger,he loses the tape and consequentially his job. The 1st half revolves around how he tries to impress the owner of the TV channel (Mukesh Rushi), to get a good conduct certificate so as to realise his ambition of joining BBC. Meera Chopra, MR's daughter tries to spoil his plans playfully, and the sequences that follow make an interesting watch. 2nd half gets serious with Ashutosh Rana ( in a powerful performance) trying to marry off Meera to his brother to expand his reach in the Seema. Yes, Pawan for the first time gets a faction background. But this does not go overboard, as is the case with lots of faction films these days.Director Dharani does a good job here.Bangaram tries to help Meera to meet Raja (her love interest) and the chase is on.



A man in a battle for love. The most meaningful tagline in ages. Power Star shows his heroism with some powerful dialogues like 'Bhaga bhaga mande bhoomi poralaninchi paikosthundi bangaram'. And his fights justify the '24 Carat Action' caption.His characterization is very good and as usual he is at ease in the comedy sequences. When taking on the village goons, Pawan wears this MEGASTAR imprinted shirt (pic attached) with RUSTHUM written on the back, crowd erupts with a huge applause. An observant eye (a pat on my back) can even catch a 'JAI CHIRANJEEVA' written on the cab that is used by Pawan towards the climax. And right at the far end there is a pleasant surprise waiting for you. Helps if your lucky number is 3 .. hehe..
